I am back writing today after a very long time. A lot of people asked me should i be taking dentistry in India?
A lot of students have passed their 12th examination, and they give NEET exams every year to get their dream medical seat.
Fact#1: Most people choose dentistry in India, because they haven't got a seat in MBBS. Very little people will choose dentistry as their true career.
Is there any money in dentistry?
I have written another post on scope of dentistry in India, due check it out it will be under the heading "Does your salary sometimes make you feel stupid?
Before i continue on this topic, I want to ask you how much money does a doctor deserve to earn in India every month ?
Atleast 50k- 1 lakh a month?
Right?
Look at this ad...
They are hiring delivery partners and they are willing to pay Rs. 35,000 to 45,000 every single month.
Now looking at another ad posted on indeed, they are ready to pay a sweeper Rs. 96,000 a year which brings any where around 8,000 every month.
Now let us look at some more ads.
Now if you see another ad on indeed, they are willing to pay a dentist around 12,000 every month..
If you look similar ads for a MBBS graduate, they'll make anywhere between 60,000 to 1 lakh very month...doing nothing...
Simply come sit, examine some patients and go back...
Mean while a dentist is making around 12 thousand every month when he is working for some one on a job.
A dentist who works way more than a regular MBBS graduate in India, is treated really bad.
A sweeper can earn as good money as a dentist.
What do you think should the salary of a dentist (BDS) be in India?
Although if you check out my other post, i have told how much a dentist can really make if he has his own clinical setup.
No doubt a dentist can make good money when he has joined
- Army and serving the nation
- Some government jobs but the openings are just 1 or 2.
When the opening of MBBS/MD/MS graduates are 10, 20,...40
The job opportunities of a dentist in India which pay really good money are just a handful of them, while dentist competing for that job posts are in thousands.
So if you have just passed your 12th and want to get into dentistry..
Answer these questions
- Is somebody a dentist in your home?
- Does somebody in your home have a clinic setup?
- Do you have enough money to start your own clinic?
- Do you have an extra Rs. 30 lakhs in your pocket ? (considering you want to do postgraduation)
- Are you hardworking to crack a government seat?
If the answer to above questions is "No", then dentistry is not a good choice for you. Because you will not be paid.
This is harsh reality after bds.
Hope you liked the post. I'll be back with more post. Let me know in the comments.
